About the project
The Warm Springs Area near Moapa has seen several uses over the course of its history. Centuries ago, it served as a thriving habitat for animals native to Southern Nevada. It was also home to the indigenous peoples of the Southern Paiute tribe. More recently, the area was used for agricultural purposes, which continued on for several decades. This decimated the native flora, making natural regeneration impossible. As a result, the State of Nevada stepped in to restore the land as close to native state as possible. As part of this process, many Eagle Scouts have contributed work towards restoring the land. In this project, over 500 native plants were planted in conjunction with a volunteer force of roughly 50 people. The abundance of what was planted includes Screwbean Mesquite, Mesquite Mistletoe, and Brittlebush.
