In 2021, the Suffield Land Conservancy purchased property adjacent to Suffield High School with the intent to create a Outdoor Education Center for the town and students. Over the last few years they have hosted school district events, built birdwatching towers, trails, bridges and shelters. However, a major component was the fact that there was no area or spot to show the property map, along with promotional information.
My project fulfilled that need. I designed a custom kiosk and ordered it through a timber company, along with a recycled plastic picnic table. I then solicited help and lead a team comprised of nearly 20 Scouts, Scouters, students and family to clear out a 300 square foot area from brush, small trees and bushes. I then led the team to level the area, lay and stake fabric in the ground to prevent plant growth, and build the kiosk to be put in place. Then I solicited a former commercial painter to stain the kiosk to ensure it is protected from the elements. Gravel was then laid around the area. For decorative purposes, a small wall was placed in the back.
